Founded in 2023, the ELLIS Institute Tübingen has quickly established itself as a leading center for foundational AI research, attracting top machine learning talent and offering state-of-the-art facilities. Research areas include AI for science (in particular, physics), AI mechanisms, AI safety, probabilistic intelligence, cooperative machine intelligence, societal impacts, AutoML, computational and applied mathematics, deep models and optimization, robust machine learning, and innovative, resource-efficient AI. To support the scientific coordination of the ELLIS Institute Tübingen we seek to hire a Research Manager (m/f/div)
Responsibilities
- Coordinate scientific activities and collaborations with academic and industry partners.
- Manage and contribute to the preparation and coordination of offers, proposals and grants
- Reporting and statistics
- Facilitate internal and external communication
- Support budget and staffing planning for the institute, including infrastructure and resource allocation
- Monitor budgets and maintain an overview of financial planning across projects
- Support the scientific central office with overall planning and organizational matters
- Help plan and manage the recruitment process for new principal investigators, and foster connections with researchers from partner institutions
- Organize scientific and public events, and prepare presentations and reports.
Your profile
- Degree in natural sciences or engineering (e.g., computer science, mathematics, physics), or a strong willingness to learn about AI research, ideally with a PhD
- Very good command of both English and German
- Experience in research management (public or private) or in industry research
- Strong organizational and management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A team player who is also able to work independently and take responsibility
- High level of resilience and professionalism

You will work closely with scientists, other scientific coordinators, administrative staff, and IT to help achieve the scientific goals of the institute. You will be based at the ELLIS Institute Tübingen, Maria-von-Linden-Straße 2, 72076, Tübingen.
