ELLIS Institute Tübingen Scientific Director Bernhard Schölkopf has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society, the United Kingdom’s national academy of sciences.
He is among more than 90 outstanding researchers from around the world elected to the Fellowship in 2026. The Royal Society recognizes individuals who have made substantial contributions to the advancement of natural knowledge through scientific research.
The Royal Society described this year’s cohort as representing the highest standards of scientific endeavour across a wide range of disciplines, highlighting the importance of curiosity, creativity, and rigorous inquiry in advancing scientific knowledge.
Founded in 1660, the Royal Society is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious scientific institutions. Its Fellows have included some of history’s most influential scientists, such as Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Dorothy Hodgkin, and Stephen Hawking.
